Cape Mendocino Lighthouse
Cape Mendocino

Quilt Designed and Copyright by Susan Plack 1996

Cape Mendocino Light is located in Capetown, and is the westernmost point in California. The lighthouse was first lit on December 1, 1868. The light originally sat 422 feet above the sea on a precarious cliff. Accessibility was a struggle. Over the years the light came into disrepair. The lighthouse was dismantled in 1998 and moved to Point Delgada, Shelter Cove, where it was re-dedicated on September 30th, 2000. The photo used for this block was courtesy of the US Coastguard and was taken at the light's original location.
