Point Reyes Lighthouse

Quilt Designed and Copyright by Susan Plack 1996

As with many lighthouses, Point Reyes was located in a remote and hard to reach area just north of the San Francisco bay area. Because of it's remote location, it took 18 years to build the light. Point Reyes went into operation on December 1, 1870. The light currently resides in the "Point Reyes National Seashore" run by the National Park Service. Although the light is no longer in operation, the park service keeps it in operating condition in case it's replacement should ever break down.
