Trinidad Head Lighthouse

Trinidad Head Lighthouse

Quilt Designed and Copyright by Susan Plack 1996

Trinidad Head Lighthouse is located on a strip of land that forms the Trinidad Bay. Trinidad is the oldest town on the northern California coast, and was founded in 1850. On the evening of December 1, 1871, the lighthouse lamp was lit for the first time. In 1898 a fog bell was installed at the lighthouse. The bell was struck at regular intervals by a heavy hammer. There was a clockwork mechanism in the bell house, just east of the actual bell, that had to be wound every two hours. Trinidad houses the only remaining bell house in California.
